Biography
Avantasia is a solo project for Edguy vocalist Tobias Sammet, taking the form of a now
two-part epic called The Metal Opera, which is precisely what one might expect given the
title and Sammet's background -- solid, expertly crafted German melodic speed/power metal
with a grandiose and, well, operatic feel. In addition to a fine set of musicians, Sammet
has recruited an impressive array of guest vocalists to play the various characters of the
opera, including David Defeis (Virgin Steele), Sharon Den Adel (Within Temptation), Kai
Hansen (Gamma Ray), Andre Matos (Angra/Shaman), Timo Tolkki (Stratovarius), Rob Rock
(Warrior), and others...
