Biography
Po opuštění deathmetalové formace Ceremonial Oath v roce 1993 kytarista Oscar Dronjak založil skupinu
Hammerfall, brzy se k němu přidal ještě Jesper Stromblad. Tím byly položeny základy Hammerfall, bylo
však nutné najít ještě další členy. Do sestavy získali kytaristu Niklase Sundina, zpěváka Mikaela
Stanne (Dark Tranquillity) a baskytaristu Johana Larssona. Dlouhou
dobu se nestalo nic podstatného, až v roce 1996 se skupina probila do semifinále soutěže "Rockslaget",
kde vystupovali se skladbami "Steel Meets Steel", "Unchained" a "Breaking The Law" od Judas Priest.
Během zmíněného semifinále však odcestoval na turné s jinou formací zpěvák Mikael Stanne a musela se
shánět náhrada. Tou se nakonec stal Joacim Cans, který byl následně přijat jako stálý člen Hammerfall.
Ačkoli vystoupení skupiny v soutěži nebyla vůbec špatná, do finále se nakonec nedostali. Živé
vystoupen ale bylo zaznamenáno a záznam dvou skladeb byl zaslán do holandského vydavatelství Vic
Records, kde byl přijat mnohem vstřícněji. Kapele byla ihned nabídnuta příležitost k vydání desky -
